In conjunction with Allegheny College, the Delta Tau Delta House Corporation, Alpha Chapter, created a conceptual plan to restore the historic, architectural, and cultural aspects of a more traditional greek house, while addressing the needs of today’s student: a comfortable and modern residential atmosphere with privacy and individual space. DTD’s fraternity fundraising efforts worked out nicely.
The inspiration for the proposed renovation is a city club. The current facility has the institutional feel of a 1970s-era dormitory. The goal of this renovation is to create the sense of a traditional fraternity house. The renovation will include:
-
Hardwood floors throughout social areas
-
Leather sofas, chairs in living room
-
Wood paneling in living room
-
Sound dampening in dining room
The house expansion will create additional social spaces such as a game room, library, and chapter room with seating for 60. The expansion will:
-
Match exterior to original structure
-
Result in three floors, with two new bathrooms
-
Add an elevator for ADA compliance
-
Add 11 rooms of the same size as the original 22 existing rooms
-
Create a new lobby with a stained-glass Delt crest above entrance
-
Implement concrete block, industrial carpeting, and sturdy furniture, similar to the existing residential wing
-
Focus on highly durable materials and construction
